In the twenty-thirdyear of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of JehubecamekingoverIsrael at Samaria, and he reigned seventeenyears.
He didevil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, 1with which he made Israelsin; he did not turn from them.
32So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them continually into the hand of 3Hazaelking of Aram, and into the hand of 4Ben-hadad the son of Hazael.
Then 5Jehoahazentreated the favor of the LORD, and the LORDlistened to him; for 6He saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Aramoppressed them.
The LORDgaveIsrael a a7deliverer, so that they bescaped from under the hand of the Arameans; and the sons of Israellived in their tents as formerly .
6Nevertheless they did not turnaway from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, 8with which he made Israelsin, but walked in cthem; and 9the Asherahalso remained standing in Samaria.
For he left to Jehoahaz of the darmy not morethanfiftyhorsemen and tenchariots and 10,000footmen, for the king of Aram had destroyed them and 10made them like the dust at threshing.
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
And Jehoahazslept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash his sonbecameking in his place.

1211Now the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did and his might with which he foughtagainstAmaziahking of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
So Joashslept with his fathers, and Jeroboamsat on his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
When Elishafbecamesick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israelcamedown to him and weptoverghim and said, "12My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!"
15Elishasaid to him, "Take a bow and arrows." So he htook a bow and arrows.
Then he said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." And he put his hand on it, then Elishalaid his hands on the king'shands.
He said, "Open the window toward the east," and he opened it. Then Elishasaid, "Shoot!" And he shot. And he said, "The LORD'Sarrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Aram; for you will idefeat the Arameans at 13Aphekuntil you have jdestroyed them."
Then he said, "Take the arrows," and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground," and he struck it threetimes and kstopped.
So 14the man of God was angry with him and said, "You should have struckfiveorsixtimes, then you would have struckAramuntil you would have ldestroyed it. But now you shall strikeAram15only threetimes."
20Elishadied, and they buried him. Now 16the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year.
As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a maraudingband; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the manmtouched the bones of Elisha he 17revived and stood up on his feet.
Now 18Hazaelking of Aram had oppressedIsraelall the days of Jehoahaz.
But the 19LORD was gracious to them and 20hadcompassion on them and turned to them because of 21His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presenceuntilnow.
When Hazaelking of Aramdied, Ben-hadad his sonbecameking in his place.
Then 22Jehoash the son of Jehoahaztookagain from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the citieswhich he hadtaken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. 23ThreetimesJoashndefeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.
