When Elishaabecamesick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israelcamedown to him and weptoverbhim and said, "1My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!"
15Elishasaid to him, "Take a bow and arrows." So he ctook a bow and arrows.
Then he said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." And he put his hand on it, then Elishalaid his hands on the king'shands.
He said, "Open the window toward the east," and he opened it. Then Elishasaid, "Shoot!" And he shot. And he said, "The LORD'Sarrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Aram; for you will ddefeat the Arameans at 2Aphekuntil you have edestroyed them."
Then he said, "Take the arrows," and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground," and he struck it threetimes and fstopped.
So 3the man of God was angry with him and said, "You should have struckfiveorsixtimes, then you would have struckAramuntil you would have gdestroyed it. But now you shall strikeAram4only threetimes."
20Elishadied, and they buried him. Now 5the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year.
As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a maraudingband; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the manhtouched the bones of Elisha he 6revived and stood up on his feet.
Now 7Hazaelking of Aram had oppressedIsraelall the days of Jehoahaz.
But the 8LORD was gracious to them and 9hadcompassion on them and turned to them because of 10His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presenceuntilnow.
When Hazaelking of Aramdied, Ben-hadad his sonbecameking in his place.
Then 11Jehoash the son of Jehoahaztookagain from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the citieswhich he hadtaken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. 12ThreetimesJoashidefeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.
