15forsaking1the rightway, they have goneastray, having followed2the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, wholoved3the wages of unrighteousness ;
but he received a rebuke for his owntransgression, 4for a mutedonkey, speaking with a voice of a man, restrained the madness of the prophet.
17These are 5springswithoutwater and mistsdriven by a storm, 6for whom the ablackdarkness has been reserved.
For speaking out 7arrogant words of 8vanity they 9entice by fleshlydesires, by 10sensuality, those who barely11escape from the ones who live in error,
19promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption ; for 12by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.
For if, after they have 13escaped the defilements of the world by 14the knowledge of the 15Lord and SaviorJesusChrist, they are again16entangled in them and are overcome, 17the last state has becomeworse for them than the first.
2118For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turnaway from 19the holycommandment20handed on to them.
22bIt has happened to them according to the trueproverb, "21A DOGRETURNS TO ITS OWNVOMIT," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."
