For awhen they maintain this, it escapes their notice that 1by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was 2formed out of water and by water,

through which 3the world at that time was 4destroyed, being flooded with water.
7
But by His word 5the present heavens and earth are being reserved for 6fire, kept for 7the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, 8beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and 9a thousand years like one day.

10The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but 11is patient toward you, 12not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
A New Heaven and Earth
10 But 13the day of the Lord 14will come like a thief, in which 15the heavens 16will pass away with a roar and the 17elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and 18the earth and bits works will be cburned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 19looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which 20the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the 21elements will melt with intense heat ! 13 But according to His 22promise we are looking for 23new heavens and a new earth, 24in which righteousness dwells. 14 25Therefore, 26beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be 27found by Him in peace, 28spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the 29patience of our Lord as salvation ; just as also 30our beloved brother Paul, 31according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you,New American Standard Bible Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation, La Habra, California.
