9
1The Lord is not slow about His promise, as somecountslowness, but 2is patienttoward you, 3not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
A New Heaven and Earth
10 But 4the day of the Lord5will comelike a thief, in which6the heavens7will passaway with a roar and the 8elements will be destroyed with intenseheat, and 9the earth and its works will be burned up.
11
Since allthesethings are to be destroyed in thisway, whatsort of people ought you to be in holyconduct and godliness,
12
10looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which11the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the 12elements will melt with intenseheat!
13
But according to His 13promise we are looking for 14newheavens and a newearth, 15in whichrighteousnessdwells.
14
16Therefore, 17beloved, since you look for thesethings, be diligent to be 18found by Him in peace, 19spotless and blameless,
15
and regard the 20patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also21our belovedbrotherPaul, 22according to the wisdomgiven him, wrote to you,
16
as also in all his letters, speaking in them of 23thesethings, 24in which are somethingshard to understand, which the untaught and 25unstabledistort, as they do also26the rest of the Scriptures, to their owndestruction.
17
You therefore, 27beloved, knowing this beforehand, 28be on your guardso* that you are not carriedaway by 29the error of 30unprincipledmen and 31fall from your ownsteadfastness,
18
but grow in the grace and 32knowledge of our 33Lord and SaviorJesusChrist. 34To Him be the glory, bothnow and to the day of eternity. Amen.
