5longing to see you, 6even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy.

[c]For I am mindful of the 7sincerefaithwithin you, whichfirstdwelt in your grandmotherLois and 8your motherEunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

For thisreason I remind you to kindleafresh9the gift of Godwhich is in you through10the laying on of my hands.

For God has not given us a 11spirit of [d]timidity, but of power and love and [e]discipline.

Therefore12do not be ashamed of the 13testimony of our Lordor of me 14His prisoner, but join with me in 15suffering for the 16gospelaccording to the power of God,

who has 17saved us and 18called us with a holy19calling, 20not according to our works, but according to His own21purpose and grace which was granted us in 22ChristJesus from 23alleternity,

but 24now has been revealed by the 25appearing of our Savior26ChristJesus, who 27abolisheddeath and broughtlife and immortality to lightthrough the gospel,

28for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher.

For thisreason I alsosufferthesethings, but 29I am not ashamed; for I know30whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to 31guardwhat I have entrusted to Him [f]until32that day.

[g]33Retain the 34standard of 35soundwords36which you have heard from me, in the 37faith and love which are in 38ChristJesus.
