Be diligent to 1presentyourselfapproved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accuratelyhandling2the word of truth.
But 3avoid4worldly and emptychatter, for ait will lead to furtherungodliness,
and their btalk will spreadlikecgangrene. Among them are 5Hymenaeus and Philetus,
men who have goneastray from the truthsaying that 6the resurrection has alreadytakenplace, and they upset7the faith of some.
19Nevertheless, the 8firmfoundation of Godstands, havingthis9seal, "10The Lordknowsthose who are His," and, "11Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness."
20Now in a largehouse there are not onlygold and silvervessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and 12some to honor and some to dishonor.
21Therefore, ifanyonecleanseshimself from 13these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, 14prepared for everygoodwork.
22Now15flee from youthfullusts and pursuerighteousness, 16faith, love and peace, with those who 17call on the Lord18from a pureheart.
But refusefoolish and ignorant19speculations, knowing that they 20producedquarrels.
2421The Lord'sbond-servantmust not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, 22able to teach, patientwhenwronged,
2523with gentlenesscorrectingthose who are in opposition, 24ifperhapsGod may grant them repentanceleading to 25the knowledge of the truth,
and they may come to their senses and escape from 26the snare of the devil, having been 27heldcaptiveeby him to do his will.
