As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that thesethings might be spoken to them the next1Sabbath.

Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the 2God-fearing3proselytesfollowedPaul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in 4the grace of God.
Paul Turns to the Gentiles
44 The next5Sabbathnearly the wholecityassembled to hear the word of the Lord.

But when 6the Jewssaw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the thingsspoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.

Paul and Barnabasspoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you 7first; since you repudiate it and judgeyourselvesunworthy* of eternallife, behold, 8we are turning to the Gentiles.

"For so the Lord has commanded us, '9I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A 10LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES, THAT YOU MAY BRING*SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.' "

When the Gentilesheard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying11the word of the Lord; and as many as 12had beenappointed to eternallifebelieved.

And 13the word of the Lord was being spreadthrough the wholeregion.

But 14the Jewsincited the 15devoutwomen16of prominence and the leadingmen of the city, and instigated a persecutionagainstPaul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.

But 17they shookoff the dust of their feet in protest against them and went to 18Iconium.

And the disciples were continually 19filled with joy and with the HolySpirit.
