1When1the day of Pentecostahad come, they were alltogether in one place.
2
And suddenly there came from heaven a noiselike a violentrushingwind, and it filled2the wholehousewhere they were sitting.
3
And there appeared to them tongues as of firebdistributing themselves, and cthey drested on eachone of them.
4
And they were all3filled with the HolySpirit and began to 4speak with otheretongues, as the Spirit was giving them futterance.
5Now there were Jewsliving in Jerusalem, 5devoutmen from everynationunderheaven.
6
And when 6thissoundoccurred, the crowdcametogether, and were bewilderedbecauseeachone of them was hearing them speak in his ownglanguage.
77They were amazed and astonished, saying, "hWhy, are not allthese who are speaking8Galileans ?
8
"And how is it that we eachhear them in our ownilanguagejto which we were born ?
9"Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and 9Cappadocia, 10Pontus and k11Asia,
1012Phrygia and 13Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libyaaround14Cyrene, and l15visitors from Rome, bothJews and m16proselytes,
11Cretans and Arabs -we hear them in our own tonguesspeaking of the mightydeeds of God."
12
And 17they all continued in amazement and greatperplexity, saying to oneanother, "What does thismean ?"
13
But others were mocking and saying, "18They are full of nsweetwine."
14
But Peter, otaking his stand with 19the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and giveheed to my words.
15
"For thesemen are not drunk, as you suppose, 20for it is only the pthirdhour of the day ;
16
but this is what was spoken of through the prophetJoel :
17
'21AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LASTDAYS,' Godsays, 'THAT I WILL POURFORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALLqMANKIND ; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNGMEN SHALL SEEVISIONS, AND YOUR OLDMEN SHALL DREAMDREAMS ;
18EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSEDAYSPOURFORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.
19
'AND I WILL GRANTWONDERS IN THE SKYABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTHBELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.
20
'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUSDAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.
21
'AND IT SHALL BE THAT 22EVERYONEWHOCALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'
22"Men of Israel, listen to thesewords : 23Jesus the Nazarene, 24a manrattested to you by God with smiracles and 25wonders and tsignswhichGodperformedthrough Him in your midst, just as you yourselvesknow -
23this Man, delivered over by the 26predeterminedplan and foreknowledge of God, 27you nailed to a cross by the hands of ugodlessmen and put Him to death.
24
"vBut 28Godraised Him up again, putting an end to the wagony of death, since it 29was impossible for Him to be heldxin its power.
25
"For Davidsays of Him, '30I SAW THE LORDALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE ; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHTHAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.
26'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUEEXULTED ; MOREOVER MY FLESHALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE ;
27BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO 31HADES, 32NORyALLOW YOUR zHOLYONE TO aaUNDERGODECAY.
28
'YOU HAVE MADEKNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE ; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'
29
"bbBrethren , I mayconfidentlysay to you regarding the 33patriarchDavid that he both34died and 35was buried, and 36his tomb is ccwith us to thisday.
30
"And so, because he was 37a prophet and knew that 38GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one ddOF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,
31
he lookedahead and spoke of the resurrection of eethe Christ, that 39HE WAS NEITHERABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His fleshffSUFFERDECAY.
32"ThisJesus40Godraised up again, to which we are all41witnesses.
33"Therefore having been exaltedgg42to the righthand of God, and 43having received from the Father44the promise of the HolySpirit, He has 45pouredforththiswhich you bothsee and hear.
34
"For it was not David who ascended into hhheaven, but he himselfsays : '46THE LORDSAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHTHAND,
35UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'
36"Therefore let all the 47house of Israelknow for certain that God has made Him both48Lord and iiChrist-thisJesus49whom you crucified."
37Now when they heard this, they were jjpierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "kkBrethren , ll50what shall we do ?"
38Peter said to them, "51Repent, and each of you be 52baptized in the name of JesusChrist for the forgiveness of your sins ; and you will receive the gift of the HolySpirit.
39
"For 53the promise is for you and your children and for allwho are 54faroff, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."
40
And with manyotherwords he solemnly55testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "mmBe saved from this56perversegeneration !"
41Sothen, those who had received his word were baptized ; and that day there were addedaboutthreethousandnn57souls.
42
They were 58continuallydevotingthemselves to the apostles'teaching and to fellowship, to 59the breaking of bread and oo60to prayer.
43ppEveryone kept feeling a sense of awe ; and many61wonders and qqsigns were takingplacethrough the apostles.
44
And allthose who had believedrrwere together and 62hadallthings in common ;
45
and they 63began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might haveneed.
4664Day by daycontinuing with onemind in the temple, and 65breakingbreadssfrom house to house, they were taking their ttmealstogether with gladness and uusincerity of heart,
47praisingGod and 66havingfavor with all the people. And the Lord67was addingvvto their numberday by day68those who were being saved.
