13Now as they observed the 1confidence of 2Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrainedmen, they were amazed, and 3began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.
14
And seeing the man who had been healedstanding with them, they hadnothing to say in reply.
15
But when they had ordered them to leave the 4Council, they began to confer with oneanother,
16
saying, "5What shall we do with thesemen? For the fact that a 6noteworthymiracle has takenplacethrough them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot*deny it.
17
"But so that it will not spreadanyfurther*among the people, let us warn them to speaknolonger to anyman7in thisname."
18
And when they had summoned them, they 8commanded them not to speakorteach at all in the name of Jesus.
19
But 9Peter and Johnanswered and said to them, "10Whether it is right in the sight of God to giveheed to you ratherthan to God, you be the judge;
20
for 11we cannot*stopspeaking about what we have seen and heard."
21
When they had threatened them further, they let them go (findingnobasis on which to punish them) 12on account of the people, because they were all13glorifyingGod for what had happened;
22
for the man was more than fortyyears old on whomthismiracle of healing had been performed.
23
When they had been released, they went to their own companions and reportedall that the chiefpriests and the elders had said to them.
24
And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God with oneaccord and said, "O Lord, it is You who 14MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM
25
who 15by the HolySpirit, through the mouth of our fatherDavid Your servant, said, '16WHY* DID THE GENTILESRAGE, AND THE PEOPLESDEVISEFUTILETHINGS?
26
'17THE KINGS OF THE EARTHTOOK THEIR STAND, AND THE RULERS WERE GATHEREDTOGETHER**AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS 18CHRIST.'
27
For truly* in thiscity there were gatheredtogetheragainst Your holy19servantJesus, whom You anointed, both20Herod and 21PontiusPilate, along with 22the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,
28
to dowhatever Your hand and 23Your purposepredestined to occur.
29
"And now, Lord, takenote of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may 24speak Your word with all25confidence,
30
while You extend Your hand to heal, and 26signs and wonderstakeplacethrough the name of Your holy27servantJesus."
31
And when they had prayed, the 28placewhere* they had gatheredtogether was shaken, and they were all29filled with the HolySpirit and began to 30speak the word of God with 31boldness.
