Now GodgrantedDaniela1favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials,

and the commander of the officialssaid to Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink ; for why should he see your faceslookingmorehaggardthan the youthswho are your own age ? Then you would bmake me forfeit my head to the king."

But Danielsaid to the overseerwhom the commander of the officials had appointedoverDaniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
12"Pleasetest your servants for tendays, and let us be 2givensomevegetables to eat and water to drink.
13
"Then let our appearance be cobserved in your presence and the appearance of the youthswho are eating the king'schoicefood ; and deal with your servants according to what you see."

So he listened to them in thismatter and tested them for tendays.

At the end of tendays their appearanceseemed3better and dthey were fatterthanall the youthswho had been eating the king'schoicefood.

So the overseercontinued to ewithhold their choicefood and the wine they were to drink, and kept4giving them vegetables.

As for thesefouryouths, 5Godgave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of fliterature and wisdom ; Daniel even understoodall kinds of 6visions and dreams.

Then at the end of the dayswhich the king had gspecifiedhfor presenting them, the commander of the officialsipresented them beforeNebuchadnezzar.

The kingtalked with them, and out of them all not one was found like 7Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah ; so they j8entered the king'spersonalservice .

As for everymatter of 9wisdomkand understanding about which the kingconsulted them, he found them 10tentimes11betterthanall the l12magicians and conjurerswho were in all his realm.

And Danielmcontinueduntil the 13firstyear of Cyrus the king.
