I, the 1Preacher, have beenkingoverIsrael in Jerusalem.
And I 2set my amind to seek and 3explore by wisdomconcerningall that has been doneunderheaven. It is ba grievous4task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
I have seenall the workswhich have been doneunder the sun, and behold, all is c5vanity and striving after wind.
What is 6crookedcannot be straightened and what is lackingcannot be counted.
I dsaid to myself, "Behold, I have magnified and increased7wisdommorethanallwho were overJerusalembefore me; and my emind has observedfa wealth of wisdom and knowledge."
And I 8set my gmind to knowwisdom and to 9knowmadness and folly ; I realized that thisalso is 10striving after wind.
18Because11in muchwisdom there is muchgrief, and increasingknowledge results in increasingpain.
