17Sothen do not be foolish, but 1understandwhat the will of the Lord is.
18
And 2do not getdrunk with wine, afor that is 3dissipation, but be 4filled with the Spirit,
195speaking to boneanother in 6psalms and 7hymns and spiritual8songs, 9singing and makingmelody with your heart to the Lord ;
2010alwaysgivingthanks for allthings in the name of our LordJesusChrist to c11God, even the Father ;
21d12and be subject to oneanother in the e13fear of Christ.
Marriage Like Christ and the Church
2214Wives, 15be subject to your ownhusbands, 16as to the Lord.
23
For 17the husband is the head of the wife, as Christalso is the 18head of the church, He Himself19being the Savior of the body.
24
But as the church is subject to Christ, soalso the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.
2520Husbands, love your wives, just as Christalsoloved the church and 21gaveHimself up for her,
2622so that He might sanctify her, having 23cleansed her by the 24washing of water with 25the word,
27
that He might 26present to Himself the churchfin all her glory, havingnospotorwrinkleoranysuchthing ; but that she would be 27holy and blameless.
28Sohusbandsoughtalso to 28love their ownwives as their ownbodies. He who loves his ownwifeloveshimself ;
29
for nooneeverhated his ownflesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christalso does the church,
30because we are 29members of His 30body.
3131FOR THISREASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOMEONEFLESH.
32Thismystery is great ; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
33Nevertheless, eachindividual among you also is to 32love his ownwife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she g33respects her husband.
