1
Then the LORDsaid to Moses, "1See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brotherAaron shall be your prophet.
2
"You shall speakall that I command you, and your brother2Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israelgo out of his land.
3
"But 3I will hardenPharaoh'sheart that I may 4multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.
4
"When 5Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and 6bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by 7greatjudgments.
5
"8The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I 9stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst."
6
So Moses and Aarondid it; 10as the LORDcommanded them, thus they did.
7Moses was 11eightyyearsold and Aaronaeighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8
Now the LORDspoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
9"WhenPharaohspeaks to you, saying, 'b12Work a miracle,' then you shall say to Aaron, '13Take your staff and throw it downbeforePharaoh, that it may become a serpent.' "
10
So Moses and Aaroncame to Pharaoh, and thus they didjust as the LORD had commanded ; and Aaronthrew his staffdownbeforePharaoh and chis servants, and it 14became a serpent.
11
Then Pharaohalso15called for the wisemen and the sorcerers, and they also, the d16magicians of Egypt, didethe same with 17their secretarts.
12
For eachonethrewdown his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron'sstaffswallowed up their staffs.
13
Yet 18Pharaoh'sheart was fhardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
14
Then the LORDsaid to Moses, "Pharaoh'sheart is gstubborn ; he refuses to let the peoplego.
15"Go to Pharaoh in the morninghas 19he is going out to the water, and stationyourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile ; and you shall take in your hand20the staff that was turned into a serpent.
16
"21You shall say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, "22Let My peoplego, that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listeneduntilnow."
17'Thussays the LORD, "23By this you shall know that I am the LORD : behold, I will strikeithe water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and 24it will be turned to blood.
18
"25The fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will jbecomefoul, and the Egyptians will k26finddifficulty in drinkingwater from the Nile.""'
19
Then the LORDsaid to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and 27stretch out your handover the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their lstreams, and over their pools, and overall their reservoirs of water, that they may becomeblood ; and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.' "
20
So Moses and Aarondideven as the LORD had commanded. And he lifted up m28the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and 29all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.
21
The fish that were in the Niledied, and the Nilenbecamefoul, so that the Egyptianscould not drinkwater from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt.
2230But the omagicians of Egyptdidpthe same with their secretarts ; and Pharaoh'sheart was qhardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
23
Then Pharaohturned and went into his houserwith noconcerneven for this.
24
So all the Egyptiansdugaround the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile.
