1
Then the LORDsaid to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for 1I have ahardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may bperformthesesigns of Mine camong them,
2
and 2that you may tell in the dhearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I eperformed My signs among them, 3that you may know that I am the LORD."
3Moses and Aaronwent to Pharaoh and said to him, "Thussays the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, 'Howlong will you refuse to 4humble yourself before Me? 5Let My peoplego, that they may serve Me.
4
'For if you refuse to let My peoplego, behold, tomorrow I will bringlocusts into your territory.
5
'They shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one will be able to see the land. 6They will also eat the rest of what has escaped -what is left to you from the hail -and they will eateverytree which sprouts for you out of the field.
6
'Then 7your houses shall be filled and the houses of all your servants and the houses of all the Egyptians, something whichneither your fathersnor your grandfathers have seen, from the day that they fcame upon the earthuntilthisday.' " And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.
78Pharaoh'sservantssaid to him, "Howlong will this man be 9a snare to us? Let the mengo, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not grealize that Egypt is destroyed ?"
8
So Moses and Aaron10were broughtback to Pharaoh, and he said to them, "11Go, serve the LORD your God ! hWho are the ones that are going ?"
9Mosessaid, "12We shall go with our young and our old ; with our sons and our daughters, 13with our flocks and our herds we shall go, for we imust hold a feast to the LORD."
10
Then he said to them, "Thus may the LORD be with you, jifever I let you and your littleonesgo ! Takeheed, for evil is kin your mind.
11
"Not so ! Gonow, the men among you, and serve the LORD, for lthat is what you desire." So 14they were driven out from Pharaoh'spresence.
12
Then the LORDsaid to Moses, "15Stretch out your handover the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt and 16eateveryplant of the land, even all that the hail has left."
13
So Mosesstretched out his staffover the land of Egypt, and the LORDdirected an eastwind on the landall that day and all that night ; and when it was morning, the eastwindmbrought the 17locusts.
1418The locustscame up overall the land of Egypt and settled in all the territory of Egypt ; they were verynnumerous. There had neverbeenso many olocusts, nor would there be so many pagain.
15
For they covered the surface of the wholeland, so that the land was darkened ; and they 19ateeveryplant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Thus nothinggreen was left on tree or plant of the field through all the land of Egypt.
16
Then Pharaohhurriedly20called for Moses and Aaron, and he said, "21I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
17"Now therefore, pleaseforgive my sinonlythisonce, and 22makesupplication to the LORD your God, that He would onlyremovethisdeath from me."
1823He went out from Pharaoh and madesupplication to the LORD.
19
So the LORDshifted the wind to a verystrongwestwind which took up the locusts and drove them into the qRedSea ; not onelocust was left in all the territory of Egypt.
20
But 24the LORDrhardenedPharaoh'sheart, and he did not let the sons of Israelgo.
21
Then the LORDsaid to Moses, "25Stretch out your handtoward the sky, that there may be darknessover the land of Egypt, even a darkness26which may be felt."
22
So Mosesstretched out his handtoward the sky, and there was 27thickdarkness in all the land of Egypt for threedays.
23
They did not seeoneanother, nor did anyonerise from his place for threedays, 28but all the sons of Israelhadlight in their dwellings.
24
Then Pharaoh29called to Moses, and said, "Go, serve the LORD ; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even30your littleones may go with you."
25
But Mosessaid, "You must alsoslet us havesacrifices and burntofferings, that we may tsacrifice them to the LORD our God.
26
"31Therefore, our livestocktoo shall go with us; not a hoof shall be leftbehind, for we shall takesome of them to serve the LORD our God. And until we arrivethere, we ourselves do not know with what we shall serve the LORD."
27
But 32the LORDuhardenedPharaoh'sheart, and he was not willing to let them go.
28
Then Pharaohsaid to him, "33Getaway from me! vBeware, do not see my faceagain, for in the day you see my face you shall die !"
29Mosessaid, "You are right ; 34I shall neversee your faceagain !"
