Now when the peoplesaw that Moses1delayed to comedown from the mountain, the peopleassembledaboutAaron and said to him, "Come, 2make us aa godwho will gobefore us; as for 3thisMoses, the manwhobrought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not knowwhat has become of him."
2Aaronsaid to them, "4Tearoff the goldringswhich are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me."
Then all the peopletoreoff the goldringswhich were in their ears and brought them to Aaron.
He took this from their hand, and fashioned it with a gravingtool and made it into a 5moltencalf; and they said, "bThis is your god, O Israel, whobrought you up from the land of Egypt."
Now when Aaronsaw this, he built an altarbefore it; and Aaronmade a proclamation and said, "Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD."
So the nextday they roseearly and 6offeredburntofferings, and broughtpeaceofferings; and 7the peoplesatdown to eat and to drink, and rose up 8to play.
Then the LORDspoke to Moses, "Gocdown at once, for your people, whom9you brought up from the land of Egypt, have 10corrupted themselves.
"They have quicklyturnedaside from the waywhich I commanded them. 11They have made for themselves a moltencalf, and have worshiped it and 12have sacrificed to it and said, 'd13This is your god, O Israel, whobrought you up from the land of Egypt!' "
914The LORDsaid to Moses, "I have seenthispeople, and behold, they are e15an obstinatepeople.
10"Now then 16let Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them; and 17I will make of you a greatnation."
