11 But when 1Cephas came to 2Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he astood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from b3James, he used to 4eat with the Gentiles ; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, 5fearing cthe party of the circumcision. 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even 6Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they 7were not dstraightforward about 8the truth of the gospel, I said to 9Cephas in the presence of all, "If you, being a Jew, 10live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews ? e 15 "We are 11Jews by nature and not 12sinners from among the Gentiles ; 16 nevertheless knowing that 13a man is not justified by the works of fthe Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by 14faith in Christ and not by the works of gthe Law ; since 15by the works of hthe Law no iflesh will be justified. 17 "But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found 16sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin ? 17May it never be! 18 "For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I 18prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 "For through jthe Law I 19died to kthe Law, so that I might live to God. 20 "I have been 20crucified with Christ ; and it is no longer I who live, but 21Christ lives in me; and lthe life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in 22the Son of God, who 23loved me and 24gave Himself up for me. 21 "I do not nullify the grace of God, for 25if righteousness comes through mthe Law, then Christ died needlessly."New American Standard Bible Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation, La Habra, California.
