191Why the Lawthen ? It was addedabecause of transgressions, having been 2ordainedthroughangels3by the bagency of a mediator, until4the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.
20Now5a mediator is not cfor one party only; whereasGod is only one.
21
Is the Lawthencontrary to the promises of God ? 6May it never be! For 7if a law had been given which was able to impartlife, then righteousnessdwould indeed have beenebased on law.
22

23
But beforefaithcame, we were kept in custodyunder the law, 9being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.
24Therefore the Law has become our 10tutor to lead us to Christ, so that 11we may be justified by faith.
25
But now that faith has come, we are nolongerunder a g12tutor.
