1
So Abramwent up from Egypt to 1the aNegev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.
2
Now Abram was 2veryrich in livestock, in silver and in gold.
3
He wentbon his journeys from the cNegev as far as Bethel, to the placewhere his tent had been at the beginning, 3betweenBethel and Ai,
4
to the place of the 4altarwhich he had madethereformerly ; and thereAbramcalled on the name of the LORD.
5
Now 5Lot, who went with Abram, alsohadflocks and herds and tents.
6
And 6the land could not dsustain them ewhile dwellingtogether, 7for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remaintogether.
78And there was strifebetween the herdsmen of Abram'slivestock and the herdsmen of Lot'slivestock. Now 9the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwellingthen in the land.
810So Abramsaid to Lot, "Please let there be nostrifebetween you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.
9
"Is not the wholelandbefore you? Pleaseseparate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right ; or if to the right, then I will go to the left."
10Lotlifted up his eyes and sawall the f11valley of the Jordan, that it was wellwateredeverywhere -this was before the LORD12destroyedSodom and Gomorrah -like 13the garden of the LORD, 14like the land of Egypt as you go to 15Zoar.
11
So Lotchose for himself all the gvalley of the Jordan, and Lotjourneyedeastward. Thus they separated from eachother.
12Abramhsettled in the land of Canaan, while Lotisettled in 16the cities of the jvalley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.
13
Now 17the men of Sodom were wickedkexceedingly and 18sinners against the LORD.
14
The LORDsaid to Abram, afterLot had separated from him, "19Nowlift up your eyes and look from the placewhere you are, 20northward and southward and eastward and westward ;
1521for all the landwhich you see, 22I will give it to you and to your ldescendantsforever .
16
"I will make your mdescendants23as the dust of the earth, so that ifanyonecannumber the dust of the earth, then your ndescendants can also be numbered.
17"Arise, 24walk about the land through its length and breadth ; for 25I will give it to you."
18
Then Abrammoved his tent and came and dwelt by the o26oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built27an altar to the LORD.
