1So Abramsaid to Lot, "Please let there be nostrifebetween you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.

"Is not the wholelandbefore you? Pleaseseparate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left."

Lotlifted up his eyes and sawall the 2valley of the Jordan, that it was wellwateredeverywhere -this was before the LORD3destroyedSodom and Gomorrah -like 4the garden of the LORD, 5like the land of Egypt as you go to 6Zoar.

So Lotchose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lotjourneyedeastward. Thus they separated from eachother.

Abramsettled in the land of Canaan, while Lotsettled in 7the cities of the valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.

Now 8the men of Sodom were wickedexceedingly and 9sinners against the LORD.

The LORDsaid to Abram, afterLot had separated from him, "10Nowlift up your eyes and look from the placewhere* you are, 11northward and southward and eastward and westward;

12for all the landwhich you see, 13I will give it to you and to your descendantsforever*.

"I will make your descendants14as the dust of the earth, so that ifanyonecannumber the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.

"Arise, 15walk about the land through its length and breadth; for 16I will give it to you."

Then Abrammoved his tent and came and dwelt by the 17oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built18an altar to the LORD.
