14Lotwent out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who awere to marry his daughters, and said, "Up, 1get out of thisplace, for the LORD will destroy the city." 2But he appeared to his sons-in-lawbto be jesting.
15Whenmorningdawned, the angelsurgedLot, saying, "Up, take your wife and your twodaughters who are here, or you will be sweptaway in the cpunishment of the city."
But he hesitated. So the men3seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the dhands of his twodaughters, for 4the compassion of the LORD was upon him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.
When they had brought them outside, eone said, "5Escape for your life! 6Do not lookbehind you, and do not stayfanywhere in the 7valley; escape to 8the gmountains, or you will be sweptaway."
But Lotsaid to them, "Ohno, my lords!
19"Nowbehold, your servant has foundfavor in your sight, and you have magnified your lovingkindness, which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannotescape to the hmountains, for the disaster will overtake me and I will die;
20nowbehold, thistown is near enough to flee to, and it is small. Please, let me escapethere (is it not small?) ithat my life may be saved."
He said to him, "Behold, I grant you thisjrequestalso, not to overthrow the town of which you have spoken.
22"Hurry, escapethere, for I cannotdoanythinguntil you arrivethere." Therefore the name of the town was calledk9Zoar.
The sun had risenover the earth when Lotcame to Zoar.
Then the LORD10rained on Sodom and Gomorrahbrimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven,
