Now Abrahamjourneyed from 1there toward the land of 2the aNegev, and bsettledbetweenKadesh and Shur ; then he sojourned in 3Gerar.
2Abrahamsaid of Sarah his wife, "4She is my sister." So 5Abimelechking of Gerarsent and tookSarah.
36But Godcame to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Behold, 7you are a dead man because of the womanwhom you have taken, for she is cmarried ."

Now Abimelech had not comenear her; and he said, "Lord, 8will You slay a nation, even though dblameless ?

"Did he not himselfsay to me, 'She is my sister '? And she 9herselfsaid, 'He is my brother.' In 10the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my ehands I have donethis."

Then Godsaid to him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have donethis, and I alsof11kept you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.
7"Now therefore, restore the man'swife, for 12he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surelydie, you and allwho are yours."

So Abimelecharoseearly in the morning and calledall his servants and toldallthesethings in their hearing ; and the men were greatlyfrightened.
913Then AbimelechcalledAbraham and said to him, "What have you done to us? And ghow have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom14a greatsin ? You have done to me hthings that ought not to be done."

And Abimelechsaid to Abraham, "What have you iencountered, that you have donethisthing ?"
11Abrahamsaid, "Because I thought, surelythere is no15fear of God in thisplace, and 16they will kill me because of my wife.
12"Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife ;

and it came about, when17God caused me to wander from my father'shouse, that I said to her, 'This is jthe kindnesswhich you will show to me: keverywhere we go, 18say of me, "He is my brother.""'
1419Abimelech then tooksheep and oxen and male and femaleservants , and gave them to Abraham, and restored his wifeSarah to him.
15Abimelechsaid, "20Behold, my land is before you; lsettle wherever myou please ."

To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your 21brother a thousand pieces of silver ; behold, it is nyour vindication before allwho are with you, and beforeallmen you are cleared."
1722Abrahamprayed to God, and GodhealedAbimelech and his wife and his maids, so that they bore children.
1823For the LORD had closedfastall the wombs of the household of Abimelechbecause of Sarah, Abraham'swife.
