Now the manahadrelations with his wifeEve, and she conceived and gavebirth to bCain, and she said, "I have gotten a cmanchild with the help of the LORD."
2Again, she gavebirth to his brotherAbel. And 1Abel was 2a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

So it came about din the course of time that Cainbrought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground.
43Abel, on his partalsobrought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fatportions. And 4the LORDhadregard for Abel and for his offering ;

but 5for Cain and for his offering He hadnoregard. So 6Cainbecameveryangry and his countenancefell.

Then the LORDsaid to Cain, "7Why are you angry ? And why has your countenancefallen ?

"8If you dowell, ewill not your countenance be lifted up? 9And if you do not dowell, sin is crouching at the door ; and its desire is for you, 10but you must master it."
8CainftoldAbel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cainrose up againstAbel his brother and 11killed him.

Then the LORDsaid to Cain, "12Where is Abel your brother ?" And he said, "I do not know. Am I my brother'skeeper ?"

He said, "What have you done ? 13The voice of your brother'sblood is crying to Me from the ground.
11"Now14you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother'sblood from your hand.

"15When you cultivate the ground, it will nolongeryield its strength to you; 16you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth."
13Cainsaid to the LORD, "My punishment is toogreat to bear !
14"Behold, You have 17driven me this day from the face of the ground ; and from Your face I will be hidden, and 18I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and 19whoeverfinds me will kill me."

So the LORDsaid to him, "ThereforewhoeverkillsCain, vengeance will be taken on him 20sevenfold." And the LORDg21appointed a sign for Cain, so that noonefinding him would slay him.

Then Cainwent out from the presence22of the LORD, and hsettled in the land of iNod, east of Eden.
17Cainjhadrelations with his wife and she conceived, and gavebirth to Enoch ; and he built a city, and called the name of the cityEnoch, after the name of his son.

Now to Enoch was bornIrad, and Iradkbecame the father of Mehujael, and Mehujaellbecame the father of Methushael, and Methushaelmbecame the father of Lamech.
19Lamechtook to himself 23twowives : the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah.
20Adahgavebirth to Jabal ; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.

His brother'sname was Jubal ; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

As for Zillah, she alsogavebirth to Tubal-cain, the forger of allimplements of bronze and iron ; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23Lamechsaid to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, Listen to my voice, You wives of Lamech, Giveheed to my speech, 24For I nhave killed a man for wounding me; And a boy for striking me;
24IfCain is avenged25sevenfold, Then Lamechseventy-sevenfold."
2526Adamohadrelations with his wifeagain ; and she gavebirth to a son, and named him pSeth, for, she said, "Godqhas appointed me anotherroffspring in place of Abel, 27for Cainkilled him."

To Seth, to him also28a son was born ; and he called his nameEnosh. Then men began29to callsupon the name of the LORD.
