Hebrews 11:32-40 (New American Standard)

And what more shall I say ? For time will fail me if I tell of 1Gideon, 2Barak, 3Samson, 4Jephthah, of 5David and 6Samuel and the prophets,
33
who by faith 7conquered kingdoms, 8performed acts of righteousness, 9obtained promises, 10shut the mouths of lions,
34
11quenched the power of fire, 12escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, 13became mighty in war, 14put foreign armies to flight.
35
15Women received back their dead by resurrection ; and others were tortured, not accepting their arelease, so that they might obtain a better resurrection ;
36
and others bexperienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also 16chains and imprisonment.
37
They were 17stoned, they were 18sawn in two, cthey were tempted, they were 19put to death with the sword ; they went about 20in sheepskins, in goatskins , being destitute, afflicted, 21ill-treated
38
(men of whom the world was not worthy ), 22wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes din the ground.
39
And all these, having e23gained approval through their faith, 24did not receive fwhat was promised,
40
because God had gprovided 25something better for us, so that 26apart from us they would not be made perfect.
