A Father's Discipline
43You have not yetresistedb4to the point of shedding blood in your strivingagainstsin ;
5
and you have forgotten the exhortationwhich is addressed to you as sons, "5MY SON, DO NOT REGARDLIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR6FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY
67FOR THOSE 8WHOM THE LORDLOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGESEVERYSONWHOM HE RECEIVES."
7
It is for discipline that you endure ; 9Goddeals with you as with sons ; for whatson is there whom his father does not discipline ?
8
But if you are withoutdiscipline, 10of whichall have becomepartakers, then you are illegitimatechildren and not sons.
9Furthermore, we hadcearthlyfathers to discipline us, and we 11respected them; shall we not muchrather be subject to 12the Father of dspirits, and 13live ?
10
For they disciplined us for a shorttime as seemedbest to them, but He disciplines us for our good, 14so that we may share His holiness.
11Alldiscipline15for the momentseems not to be joyful, but sorrowful ; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the 16peacefulfruit of righteousness.
