By faith1Abraham, when he was called, obeyedaby going out to a placewhich he was to 2receive for an inheritance ; and he went out, not knowingwhere he was going.

By faith he lived as an alien in 3the land of promise, as in a foreign land, 4dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, 5fellowheirs of the samepromise ;

for he was looking for 6the citywhichhas7foundations, 8whosearchitect and builder is God.

By faitheven9Sarahherselfreceivedbability to conceive , evenbeyond the propertime of life, since she considered Him 10faithful who had promised.
12Therefore there was borneven of oneman, and 11him as good as deadcat that, as many descendants 12AS THE STARS OF HEAVEN IN NUMBER, AND INNUMERABLE AS THE SAND WHICH IS BY THE SEASHORE.
1313Allthesedied in faith, 14withoutreceiving the promises, but 15having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and 16having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

For those who saysuchthingsmake it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.

And indeedif they had been dthinking of that country from which they went out, 17they would have hadopportunity to return.

But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a 18heavenlyone. Therefore19God is not eashamed to be 20called their God ; for 21He has prepared a city for them.
