Give Heed

1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to ^awhat we have heard, so that ¹we do not drift away from it. 2 For if the word ²spoken through ³angels proved ^bunalterable, and ⁴every transgression and disobedience received a just ^c⁵penalty, 3 ⁶how will we escape if we neglect so great a ⁷salvation ? ^dAfter it was at the first ⁸spoken through the Lord, it was ⁹confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by ¹⁰signs and wonders and by ¹¹various ^emiracles and by ^f¹²gifts of the Holy Spirit ¹³according to His own will.

Earth Subject to Man

5 For He did not subject to angels ^g¹⁴the world to come, concerning which we are speaking. 6 But one has testified ¹⁵somewhere, saying, "¹⁶WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM ? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM? 7 "¹⁷YOU HAVE MADE HIM ^hFOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS ; YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR, ⁱAND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS ; 8 ¹⁸YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET." For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now ¹⁹we do not yet see all things subjected to him.

Jesus Briefly Humbled

9 But we do see Him who was ²⁰made ^jfor a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, ²¹because of the suffering of death ²²crowned with glory and honor, so that ²³by the grace of God He might ²⁴taste death ²⁵for everyone. 10 For ²⁶it was fitting for Him, ²⁷for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to ²⁸perfect the ^k²⁹author of their salvation through sufferings.
