1Therefore, let us fearif, while a promiseremains of entering His rest, anyone of you may seem to have 1comeshort of it.
2
For indeed we have had goodnewspreached to us, just as they also ; but 2the wordathey heard did not profit them, because bit was not united by faith in thosewhoheard.
3
For we who have believedenter that rest, just as He has said, "3AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished4from the foundation of the world.
4
For He has said5somewhereconcerning the seventh day: "6AND GOD7RESTED ON THE SEVENTHDAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS ";
5
and again in this passage, "8THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."
6Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and thosewhoformerly had goodnewspreached to them failed to enterbecause of 9disobedience,
7
He againfixes a certainday, "Today," sayingcthroughDavidaftersolong a timejust10as has been saidbefore, "11TODAYIF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."
8
For 12ifdJoshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of anotherdayafter that.
9So there remains a Sabbathrest for the people of God.
10
For the one who has entered His rest has himselfalso13rested from his works, as 14God did from His.
11Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that noone will fall, through following the same15example of 16disobedience.
