For it is evident that our Lordawas 1descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to whichMosesspokenothingconcerningpriests.
And this is clearerstill, ifanotherpriestarisesaccording to the likeness of Melchizedek,
16who has become such not on the basis of a law of b2physicalrequirement, but according to the power of 3an indestructiblelife.
For it is attested of Him, "4YOU ARE A PRIESTFOREVERACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."
For, on the onehand, there is a settingaside of a formercommandment5because of its weakness and uselessness19
(for 6the Lawmadenothingperfect ), and on the otherhand there is a bringing in of a better7hope, throughwhich we 8drawnear to God.
And inasmuch as it was not without an oath21
(for they indeedbecamepriestswithout an oath, but He with an oaththrough the One who said to Him, "9THE LORD HAS SWORN AND 10WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND, 'YOU ARE A PRIEST11FOREVER ' ");
22somuch the morealsoJesus has become the 12guarantee of 13a bettercovenant.
23cThe former priests, on the onehand, existed in greaternumbersbecause they were prevented by death from continuing,
but Jesus, on the otherhand, because He continues14forever, holds His priesthoodpermanently.
