In the year that the a1commandercame to 2Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyriasent him and he fought against Ashdod and captured it,

at that time the LORDspokethrough3Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, "Go and loosen the 4sackcloth from your hips and take your 5shoesoff your feet." And he didso, going6naked and barefoot.

And the LORDsaid, "Even as My servantIsaiah has gonenaked and barefootthreeyears as a b7sign and tokenagainstEgypt and c8Cush,
4so the 9king of Assyria will leadaway the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, 10young and old, naked and barefoot with buttocksuncovered, to the dshame of Egypt.

"Then they will be 11dismayed and ashamedbecause of Cush their hope and Egypt their 12boast.

"So the inhabitants of thiscoastland will say in that day, 'Behold, such is our hope, where we fled13for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria ; and we, 14how shall we escape ?' "
