22this is the word that the LORD has spokenagainst him: "She has despised you and mocked you, The 2virgin3daughter of Zion; She has 4shaken her headbehind you, The daughter of Jerusalem!
23"Whom have you 5reproached and blasphemed? And againstwhom have you raised your voice And ahaughtily6lifted up your eyes? Against the 7HolyOne of Israel!
24"Through your servants you have reproached the Lord, And you have said, 'With my manychariots I came up to the heights of the mountains, To the remotestparts of 8Lebanon; And I cutdown its tall9cedars and its choicecypresses. And I will go to its bhighestpeak, its thickest10forest.
'I dug wells and drankwaters, And 11with the sole of my feet I dried up All the rivers of cEgypt.'
"12Have you not heard? Longago I did it, From ancienttimes I 13planned it. Now14I have brought it to pass, That 15you should turnfortifiedcities into 16ruinousheaps.
"Therefore their inhabitants were short of strength, They were dismayed and put to shame; They were as the 17vegetation of the field and as the greenherb, As 18grass on the housetopsdis scorchedbefore it is grown up.
"But I 19know your sittingdown And your going out and your coming in And your ragingagainst Me.
29"Because of your ragingagainst Me And because your e20arrogance has come up to My ears, Therefore I will put My 21hook in your nose And My 22bridle in your lips, And I will turn you back23by the waywhich you came.
"Then this shall be the sign for you: fyou will eat this yearwhat24grows of itself, in the secondyearwhatsprings from the same, and in the thirdyearsow, reap, plantvineyards and eat their fruit.
"The 25surviving26remnant of the house of Judah will again27take rootdownward and bearfruitupward.
