24'Behold, the 1siegeramps have reached the city to take it; and the city is 2given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fightagainst it, because of the 3sword, the famine and the pestilence; and what You have spoken has 4come to pass; and behold, You see it.
'You have said to me, O LordaGOD, "Buy for yourself the field with money and call in witnesses "-although the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.' "
Then the word of the LORDcame to Jeremiah, saying,
27"Behold, I am the LORD, the 5God of allflesh; is anything6toodifficult for Me?"
28Thereforethussays the LORD, "Behold, I am about to 7givethiscity into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzarking of Babylon, and he will take it.
"The Chaldeans who are fightingagainstthiscity will enter and 8setthiscity on fire and burn it, with the 9houseswhere people have offeredincense to Baal on their roofs and poured out drinkofferings to othergods to provoke Me to anger.
30"Indeed the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been doingonly10evil in My sight from their youth; for the sons of Israel have been only11provoking Me to anger by the work of their hands," declares the LORD.
31"Indeedthiscity has been to Me a 12provocation of My anger and My wrath from the day that they built it, even to thisday, so that it should be 13removed from before My face,
32because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judahwhich they have done to provoke Me to anger -they, their 14kings, their leaders, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
"They have turned their back to Me and not their face; though I taught them, b15teachingagain and again, they would not listencand receiveinstruction.
"But they 16put their detestablethings in the housewhich is called by My name, to defile it.
