13"If I have 22despised the claim of my male or femaleslaves When they filed a complaintagainst me,
14What then could I dowhenGodarises ? And when He calls me to account, what will I answer Him?

"Did not 23He who made me in the wombmake him, And the sameonefashion us in the womb ?
16"If I have kept24the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of 25the widow to fail,

Or have 26eaten my morselalone, And 27the orphan has not gshared it

(But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And from hinfancy I guided her),
19If I have seen anyone perish28for lack of clothing, Or that 29the needyhadnocovering,
20If his loins have not ithanked me, And if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep,
21If I have lifted up my handagainst30the orphan, Because I sawjI had support31in the gate,

Let my shoulderfall from the ksocket, And my 32arm be brokenofflat the elbow.

"For 33calamity from God is a terror to me, And because of 34His mmajesty I candonothing.
24"If I have put my confidence in 35gold, And calledfinegold my trust,
25If I have 36gloatedbecause my wealth was great, And because my hand had secured so much ;
26If I have 37looked at the nsunwhen it shone Or the moongoing in splendor,

And my heartbecamesecretlyenticed, And my handothrew a kiss from my mouth,

That too would have been 38an iniquity calling for pjudgment, For I would have 39deniedGodabove .

"Have I 40rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy, Or qexultedwhenevilbefell him?

"rNo, 41I have not sallowed my mouth to sin By asking for his life in 42a curse.

"Have the men of my tent not said, 'Who can tfind one who has not been 43satisfied with his meat '?

"The alien has not lodgedoutside, For I have opened my doors to the utraveler.

"Have I 44covered my transgressions like vAdam, By hiding my iniquity in my bosom,
34Because I 45feared the greatmultitude, And the contempt of familiesterrified me, And keptsilent and did not go out of doors ?
35"Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my wsignature ; 46Let the Almightyanswer me! And the indictment which my 47adversary has written,
36Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, I would bind it to myself like a crown.

"I would declare to Him 48the number of my steps ; Like49a prince I would approach Him.
38"If my 50landcries out against me, And its furrowsweeptogether ;
39If I have 51eaten its xfruitwithoutmoney, Or have 52caused yits owners to lose their lives,

Let 53briarszgrowinstead of wheat, And stinkweedinstead of barley." The words of Job are ended.
