8 [a]1He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9 There was 2the true Light [b]which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
10 He was in the world, and 3the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His [c]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become 4children of God, even 5to those who believe in His name,
13 6who were [d]born, not of [e]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word Made Flesh

14 And 7the Word 8became flesh, and [f]9dwelt among us, and 10we saw His glory, glory as of [g]the only begotten from the Father, full of 11grace and 12truth.
15 John 13testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '14He who comes after me [h]has a higher rank than I, 15for He existed before me.' "
16 For of His 16fullness [i]we have all received, and [j]grace upon grace.
17 For 17the Law was given through Moses; 18grace and 19truth [k]were realized through Jesus Christ.
18 20No one has seen God at any time; 21the only begotten God who is 22in the bosom of the Father, 23He has explained Him.
