9 There was 1the true Light [a]which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
10 He was in the world, and 2the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His [b]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become 3children of God, even 4to those who believe in His name,
13 5who were [c]born, not of [d]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word Made Flesh

14 And 6the Word 7became flesh, and [e]8dwelt among us, and 9we saw His glory, glory as of [f]the only begotten from the Father, full of 10grace and 11truth.
15 John 12testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '13He who comes after me [g]has a higher rank than I, 14for He existed before me.' "
16 For of His 15fullness [h]we have all received, and [i]grace upon grace.
17 For 16the Law was given through Moses; 17grace and 18truth [j]were realized through Jesus Christ.
18 19No one has seen God at any time; 20the only begotten God who is 21in the bosom of the Father, 22He has explained Him.

The Testimony of John

19 This is 23the testimony of John, when 24the Jews sent to him priests and Levites 25from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
