11Jesus, therefore, sixdaysbefore2the Passover, came to 3BethanywhereLazarus was, whomJesus had raised from the dead.
2So they made Him a supperthere, and 4Martha was serving ; but Lazarus was one of thosereclining at the table with Him.
35Marythentook a apound of verycostly6perfume of purenard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair ; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4
But 7JudasIscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to bbetray Him, said,
5"Why was thisperfume not sold for cthreehundreddenarii and given to poor people?"
6Now he saidthis, not because he was concernedabout the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he 8had the moneybox, he used to pilfer9what was put into it.
7ThereforeJesussaid, "Let her alone, so that she may keepdit for 10the day of My burial.8"11For you alwayshave the poor with you, but you do not alwayshave Me."9
The 12largecrowd of the Jewsthenlearned that He was there ; and they came, not for Jesus'sakeonly, but that they might alsoseeLazarus, 13whom He raised from the dead.
10
But the chiefpriestsplanned to putLazarus to deathalso ;
11because14on account of him 15many of the Jews were goingaway and were believing in Jesus.
12
On the nextday16the largecrowd who had come to 17the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13took the branches of the palmtrees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, "18Hosanna ! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the 19King of Israel."
14Jesus, finding a youngdonkey, sat on it; as it is written,
15
"20FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION ; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY'SCOLT."
1621Thesethings His disciples did not understand at the first ; but whenJesus22was glorified, then they remembered that thesethings were written of Him, and that they had donethesethings to Him.
17So23the epeople, who were with Him when He calledLazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.
1824For thisreasonalso the fpeoplewent and met Him, 25because they heard that He had performedthisgsign.
19So the Phariseessaid to oneanother, "You see that you are not doinganygood ; look, the world has goneafter Him."
20Nowthere were some26Greeksamongthose who were going up to worship at 27the feast ;
21thesethencame to 28Philip, who was from 29Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, "Sir, we wish to seeJesus."
22Philipcame and told30Andrew ; Andrew and Philipcame and toldJesus.
23
And Jesusanswered them, saying, "31The hour has come for the Son of Man to 32be glorified.24"Truly, truly, I say to you, 33unless a grain of wheatfalls into the earth and dies, it remainsalone ; but if it dies, it bearsmuchfruit.25"34He who loves his hlifeloses it, and he who 35hates his ilife in thisworld will keep it to lifeeternal.26"Ifanyonejserves Me, he must follow Me; and 36where I am, there My servant will be also ; ifanyonekserves Me, the Father will 37honor him.
27"38Now My soul has become troubled ; and what shall I say, '39Father, save Me from 40thishour '? But for this purpose I came to thishour.28"41Father, glorify Your name."Then a 42voicecame out of heaven : "I have bothglorified it, and will glorify it again."
29So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered ; others were saying, "43An angel has spoken to Him."
30Jesusanswered and said, "44Thisvoice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes.31"45Nowjudgment is upon thisworld ; now46the ruler of thisworld will be cast out.32"And I, if I 47am lifted up from the earth, will 48drawallmen to Myself."33
But He was sayingthis49to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.
34
The crowdthenanswered Him, "We have heard out of 50the Law that l51the Christ is to remainforever ; and how can You say, 'The 52Son of Manmust be 53lifted up'? Who is this54Son of Man ?"
35SoJesussaid to them, "55For a littlewhilelonger56the Light is among you. 57Walkwhile you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who 58walks in the darkness does not knowwhere he goes.36"While you have the Light, 59believe in the Light, so that you may become60sons of Light."ThesethingsJesusspoke, and He wentaway and m61hid Himself from them.
37
But though He had performedsomanynsignsbefore them, yet they were not believing in Him.
38
This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophetwhich he spoke : "62LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT ? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE LORD BEEN REVEALED ?"
39
For thisreason they could not believe, for Isaiahsaidagain,
40
"63HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE 64HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND oBE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM"41ThesethingsIsaiahsaidbecause65he saw His glory, and 66he spoke of Him.
42Nevertheless67manyeven of 68the rulersbelieved in Him, but 69because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be p70put out of the synagogue ;
4371for they loved the qapproval of menratherthan the rapproval of God.
44
And Jesuscried out and said, "72He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.45"73He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.46"74I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.47"Ifanyonehears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for 75I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.48"76He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; 77the word I spoke is what will judge him at 78the lastday.49"79For I did not speakson My owninitiative, but the FatherHimself who sent Me 80has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.50"I know that 81His commandment is eternallife ; therefore the things I speak, I speak82just as the Father has told Me."
