1Then the slave-girl who kept the doorsaid to Peter, "2You are not also one of thisman'sdisciples, are you?" He said, "I am not."

Now the slaves and the 3officers were standing there, having made4a charcoalfire, for it was cold and they were 5warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.

6The highpriestthenquestionedJesusabout His disciples, and about His teaching.

Jesusanswered him, "I 7have spokenopenly to the world; I always8taught in synagogues and 9in the temple, whereall the Jewscometogether; and I spokenothing in secret.

"Why do you question Me? Questionthose who have heardwhat I spoke to them; they knowwhat I said."

When He had saidthis, one of the 10officersstandingnearby11struck*Jesus, saying, "Is that the way You answer the highpriest?"

12Jesusanswered him, "If I have spokenwrongly, testify of the wrong; but ifrightly, why do you strike Me?"

13SoAnnassent Him bound to 14Caiaphas the highpriest.
Peter's Denial of Jesus
2515Now16SimonPeter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, "17You are not also one of His disciples, are you?" He denied it, and said, "I am not."

One of the slaves of the highpriest, being a relative of the one 18whoseearPetercutoff, said, "Did I not see you in 19the garden with Him?"

Peterthendenied it again, and immediately20a roostercrowed.
