Now the word of the LORDcame to Jonah the secondtime, saying,
2"Arise, go to 1Nineveh the greatcity and 2proclaim to it the proclamationwhich I am going to tell you."

So Jonaharose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was aan 3exceedinglygreatcity, a threedays'walk.

Then Jonahbegan to go through the cityoneday'swalk ; and he 4cried out and said, "Yetfortydays and Nineveh will be overthrown."

Then the people of Ninevehbelieved in God ; and they called a 5fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them.

When the wordreached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laidaside his robe from him, 6covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the bashes.

He issued a 7proclamation and it said, "In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles : Do not let man, beast, herd, or flocktaste a thing. Do not let them eat or drinkwater.

"But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth ; and let cmen 8call on Godearnestly that each may 9turn from his wickedway and from the violencewhich is in dhis hands.

"10Whoknows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burninganger so that we will not perish."

When Godsaw their deeds, that they 11turned from their wickedway, then 12Godrelentedconcerning the calamitywhich He had declared He would ebring upon them. And He did not do it.
