Then the LORDsaid to Joshua, "Today I have rolledaway1the reproach of Egypt from you." So the name of that place is calledGilgal to thisday.

While the sons of Israelcamped at Gilgal2they observed the Passover on the evening of the 3fourteenth*day of the month on the desertplains of Jericho.

On the dayafter the Passover, on that veryday, they atesome of the produce of the land, unleavenedcakes and parched grain.

4The mannaceased on the dayafter they had eatensome of the produce of the land, so that the sons of Israelnolongerhadmanna, but they atesome of the yield of the land of Canaan during that year.

Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, 5a man was standingopposite him with his sworddrawn in his hand, and Joshuawent to him and said to him, "Are you for us or for our adversaries?"

He said, "No; rather I indeedcomenow as captain of the host of the LORD." And Joshua6fell on his face to the earth, and boweddown, and said to him, "What has my lord to say to his servant?"
