Then 1the sons of Israelagaindidevil in the sight of the LORD, after Ehuddied.
And the LORDsold them into the hand of 2Jabinking of Canaan, whoreigned in Hazor; and the commander of his army was Sisera, wholived in 3Harosheth-hagoyim .
The sons of Israelcried to the LORD; for he had ninehundred4ironchariots, and he oppressed the sons of Israelseverely for twentyyears.
Now Deborah, a aprophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judgingIsrael at that time.
She used to bsitunder the 5palmtree of DeborahbetweenRamah and Bethel in the hillcountry of Ephraim; and the sons of Israelcame up to her for judgment.
Now she sent and summoned6Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali , and said to him, "cBehold, the LORD, the God of Israel, has commanded, 'Go and march to MountTabor, and take with you tenthousandmen from the sons of Naphtali and from the sons of Zebulun.
'I will draw out to you Sisera, the commander of Jabin'sarmy, with his chariots and his dmany troops to the riverKishon, and 7I will give him into your hand.' "
Then Baraksaid to her, "If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go."
She said, "I will surelygo with you; nevertheless , the honor shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to take, 8for the LORD will sellSisera into the hands of a woman." Then Deboraharose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10Barakcalled9Zebulun and Naphtalitogether to Kedesh, and tenthousandmenwent up e10with him; Deborah also went up with him.
Now Heber11the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the foak in 12Zaanannim, which is nearKedesh.
Then they toldSisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to MountTabor.
13Siseracalledtogetherall his chariots, 13ninehundredironchariots, and all the peoplewho were with him, from 14Harosheth-hagoyim to the riverKishon.
14Deborahsaid to Barak, "Arise! For this is the day in which the LORD has givenSisera into your hands; gbehold, 15the LORD has gone out before you." So Barakwentdown from MountTabor with tenthousandmenfollowing him.
1516The LORDhroutedSisera and all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the swordbeforeBarak; and Siseraalighted from his chariot and fled away on foot.
But Barakpursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim , and all the army of Siserafell by the edge of the sword; 17not evenone was left.
Now Siserafled away on foot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peacebetweenJabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18Jaelwent out to meetSisera, and said to him, "Turnaside, my master, turnaside to me! Do not be afraid." And he turnedaside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a irug.
1918He said to her, "Pleasegive me a littlewater to drink, for I am thirsty." So she opened a jbottle of milk and gave him a drink; then she covered him.
He said to her, "Stand in the doorway of the tent, and it shall be ifanyonecomes and inquires of you, and says, 'Is thereanyonehere?' that you shall say, 'No.' "
But Jael, Heber'swife, 19took a tentpeg and kseized a hammer in her hand, and wentsecretly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it wentthrough into the ground; for he was soundasleep and exhausted. So he died.
And behold, as BarakpursuedSisera, Jaelcame out to meet him and said to him, "Come, and I will show you the manwhom you are seeking." And he enteredlwith her, and beholdSisera was lyingdead with the tentpeg in his temple.
So 20Godsubdued on that dayJabin the king of Canaanbefore the sons of Israel.
The hand of the sons of Israelpressedheavier and heavier upon Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had mdestroyedJabin the king of Canaan.
