26"1Was it not necessary for the aChrist to sufferthesethings and to enter into His glory ?"27Thenbeginningbwith 2Moses and cwith all the 3prophets, He explained to them the things concerningHimself in all the Scriptures.

And they approached the villagewhere they were going, and 4He acted as though He were goingfarther.

But they urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting towardevening, and the daydis nownearlyover." So He went in to stay with them.
30When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and 5blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them.
31Then their 6eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from etheir sight.

They said to oneanother, "fWere not our heartsburningwithin us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He 7was gexplaining the Scriptures to us?"

And they got up that veryhour and returned to Jerusalem, and 8foundgatheredtogether the eleven and 9thosewho were with them,
34saying, "10The Lord has reallyrisen and 11has appeared to Simon."

They began to relatehtheir experiences on the road and how12He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

While they were tellingthesethings, 13He Himselfstood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be to you."37
But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing14a spirit.

And He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubtsarise in your ihearts ?39"15See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself ; 16touch Me and see, for a spirit does not haveflesh and bones as you see that I have."40
And when He had saidthis, He showed them His hands and His feet.

While they stillj17could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, "18Have you anythinghere to eat ?"42
They gave Him a piece of a broiledfish ;

and He took it and 19ate it before them.
44Now He said to them, "20These are My wordswhich I spoke to you while I was still with you, that allthings which are writtenabout Me in the 21Law of Moses and the Prophets and 22the Psalmsmust be fulfilled."45Then He 23opened their kminds to understand the Scriptures,

and He said to them, "24Thus it is written, that the lChrist would suffer and 25riseagain from the dead the thirdday,47and that 26repentancemfor forgiveness of sins would be proclaimednin His name to 27all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.48"You are 28witnesses of thesethings.49"And behold, 29I am sendingforth the promise of My Father upon you; but 30you are to stay in the cityuntil you are clothed with power from on high."
The Ascension

And He led them out as far as 31Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them.
51While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.

And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with greatjoy,
