14 And 1Jesusreturned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and 2newsabout Him spreadthroughall the surroundingdistrict.

And He began 3teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.

And He came to 4Nazareth, where He had beenbrought up; and as was His custom, 5He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and 6stood up to read.

And the book of the prophetIsaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the placewhere it was written,

"7THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME,BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR.HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIMRELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES,AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND,TO SETFREE* THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,

And He 9closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and 10satdown; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.

And He began to say to them, "TodaythisScripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

And all were speakingwell of Him, and wondering at the graciouswords which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, "11Is this not Joseph'sson?"

And He said to them, "Nodoubt you will quotethisproverb to Me, 'Physician, healyourself! Whatever we heard was done12at Capernaum, dohere in 13your hometown as well.' "

And He said, "Truly I say to you, 14noprophet is welcome in his hometown.
25
"But I say to you in truth, there were manywidows in Israel15in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for threeyears and sixmonths, when a greatfaminecameoverall the land;
26
and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but 16only* to Zarephath, in the land of 17Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
27
"And there were manylepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but 18only*Naaman the Syrian."
28
And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heardthesethings;
29
and they got up and 19drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff.
30
But 20passingthrough their midst, He went His way.
