261Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is oppositeGalilee.
27
And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons ; and who had not put on any clothing for a longtime, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.
28SeeingJesus, he cried out and fellbefore Him, and said in a loudvoice, "a2What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of 3the MostHighGod ? I beg You, do not torment me."
29
For He had commanded the uncleanspirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him manytimes ; and he was bound with chains and shackles and keptunderguard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.
30
And Jesusasked him, "What is your name ?" And he said, "4Legion "; for manydemons had entered him.
31
They were imploring Him not to command them to goaway into 5the abyss.
32Now there was a herd of manyswinefeedingthere on the mountain ; and the demons implored Him to permit them to enterbthe swine. And He gave them permission.
33
And the demonscame out of the man and entered the swine ; and the herdrusheddown the steepbank into 6the lake and was drowned.
34
When the herdsmensaw what had happened, they ranaway and reported it in the city and out in the country.
35
The people went out to see what had happened ; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sittingdown7at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his rightmind ; and they became frightened.
36Those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was 8demon-possessed had been cmadewell.
37
And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surroundingdistrictasked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with greatfear ; and He got into a boat and returned.
389But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might daccompany Him; but He sent him away, saying,
39"Return to your house and describewhatgreatthingsGod has done for you."So he wentaway, proclaimingthroughout the wholecitywhatgreatthingsJesus had done for him.
4010And as Jesusreturned, the epeoplewelcomed Him, for they had allbeenwaiting for Him.
4111And there came a mannamedJairus, and he was an f12official of the synagogue ; and he fell at Jesus'feet, and began to implore Him to come to his house ;
42
for he had an gonlydaughter, abouttwelveyears old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressingagainst Him.
43
And a woman who had a hemorrhage for twelveyears, and could not be healed by anyone,
44came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His hcloak, and immediately her hemorrhagestopped.
45
And Jesussaid, "Who is the one who touched Me?" And while they were alldenying it, Petersaid, "13Master, the ipeople are crowding and pressing in on You."
46
But Jesussaid, "Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that 14power had gone out of Me."47
When the womansaw that she had not escapednotice, she cametrembling and felldownbefore Him, and declared in the presence of all the people the reasonwhy she had touched Him, and how she had been immediatelyhealed.
48
And He said to her, "Daughter, 15your faith has jmade you well ; 16go in peace."49
While He was stillspeaking, someonecame from the house of 17the synagogueofficial, saying, "Your daughter has died ; do not trouble the Teacheranymore."
50
But when Jesusheard this, He answered him, "18Do not be afraid any longer; onlybelieve, and she will be kmadewell."51
When He came to the house, He did not allowanyone to enter with Him, exceptPeter and John and James, and the girl'sfather and mother.
52Now they were allweeping and 19lamenting for her; but He said, "Stopweeping, for she has not died, but 20is asleep."53
And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.
54
He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Child, arise !"55
And her spiritreturned, and she got up immediately ; and He gaveorders for something to be given her to eat.
56
Her parents were amazed ; but He 21instructed them to tellnoone what had happened.
