And his father Zacharias 1was filled with the Holy Spirit, and 2prophesied, saying:
"3Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished 4redemption for His people,
And has raised up a 5horn of salvation for us In the house of David 6His servant -
7As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets 8from of old -
9Salvation 10FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;
11To show mercy toward our fathers, 12And to remember His holy covenant,
13The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,
To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,
14In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.
"And you, child, will be called the 15prophet of 16the Most High; For you will go on 17BEFORE THE LORD TO 18PREPARE HIS WAYS;
To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By 19the forgiveness of their sins,
Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which 20the Sunrise from on high will visit us,
21TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the 22way of peace."
23And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
