31"The second is this, '1YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is noothercommandmentgreater than these."32
The scribesaid to Him, "Right, Teacher ; You have trulystated that 2HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NOONEELSEBESIDES HIM;
333AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE'S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, 4is muchmore than allburntofferings and sacrifices."
When Jesussaw that he had answeredintelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."5After that, noone would venture to ask Him anymorequestions.
356And Jesus began to say, as He 7taught in the temple, "How is it that the scribessay that athe Christ is the 8son of David ?36"Davidhimselfsaidbin the HolySpirit,'9THE LORDSAID TO MY LORD,"SIT AT MY RIGHTHAND,UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIESBENEATH YOUR FEET."'37"Davidhimselfcalls Him 'Lord '; so in whatsense is He his son ?" And 10the largecrowdcenjoyedlistening to Him.
3811In His teaching He was saying : "Beware of the scribes who like to walkaround in longrobes, and like 12respectful greetings in the marketplaces,39and chiefseats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,4013who devourwidows'houses, and for appearance'ssakeofferlongprayers ; these will receivegreatercondemnation."
