Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."

1And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.

2And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

3When the centurion, who was standingright in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was the Son of God!"

4There were also some womenlooking on from a distance, amongwhom were MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of James5the Less and Joses, and 6Salome.

When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and 7minister to Him; and there were manyotherwomen who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

428When evening had alreadycome, because it was 9the preparationday, that is, the daybefore the Sabbath,

Joseph of Arimatheacame, a 10prominentmember of the Council, whohimself was 11waiting for the kingdom of God; and he 12gathered up courage and went in beforePilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.

Pilatewonderedif He was dead by thistime, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was alreadydead.

And ascertaining this from 13the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

Joseph bought a linencloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linencloth and laid Him in a tombwhich had beenhewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stoneagainst the entrance of the tomb.
