After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, "Listen to Me, all of you, and understand:15there is nothingoutside the man which candefile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man.16
["aIfanyonehasears to hear, let him hear."]
17When he had left the crowd and entered1the house, 2His disciplesquestioned Him about the parable.
And He said to them, "Are you solacking in understandingalso? Do you not understand that whatevergoes into the man from outsidecannotdefile him,19because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and bis eliminated ?" (Thus He declared3allfoods4clean.)
And He was saying, "5That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.21"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evilthoughts, cfornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,22deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, d6envy , slander, epride and foolishness.23"Alltheseevilthingsproceed from within and defile the man."
247Jesus got up and wentaway from there to the region of 8Tyref. And when He had entered a house, He wantednoone to know of it; gyet He could not escapenotice.
But after hearing of Him, a womanwhoselittledaughterhad an uncleanspiritimmediatelycame and fell at His feet.
26Now the woman was a hGentile, of the Syrophoenicianrace. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.
And He was saying to her, "Let the children be satisfiedfirst, for it is not igood to take the children'sbread and throw it to the dogs."28
But she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogsunder the tablefeed on the children'scrumbs."
And He said to her, "Because of thisjanswergo; the demon has gone out of your daughter."30
And goingback to her home, she found the childklying on the bed, the demon having left.
319Again He went out from the region of 10Tyre, and camethroughSidon to 11the Sea of Galilee, within the region of 12Decapolis.
They brought to Him onewho was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they implored Him to 13lay His hand on him.
3314Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after 15spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva;
and looking up to heaven with a deep16sigh, He said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!"35
And his ears were opened, and the limpediment of his tonguemwas removed, and he began speakingplainly.
And 17He gave them orders not to tellanyone; but the more He ordered them, the morewidely they 18continued to proclaim it.
They were utterlyastonished, saying, "He has doneallthingswell; He makeseven the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."
