And He said to them, "Are you solacking in understandingalso? Do you not understand that whatevergoes into the man from outsidecannot*defile him,

because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated**?" (Thus He declared1allfoods2clean.)

And He was saying, "3That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evilthoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, 4envy*, slander, pride and foolishness.

"Alltheseevilthingsproceed from within and defile the man."

245Jesus got up and wentaway from there to the region of 6Tyre . And when He had entered a house, He wantednoone to know of it; yet He could not escapenotice.

But after hearing of Him, a womanwhoselittledaughterhad an uncleanspiritimmediatelycame and fell at His feet.

Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenicianrace. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.

And He was saying to her, "Let the children be satisfiedfirst, for it is not good to take the children'sbread and throw it to the dogs."

But she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogsunder the tablefeed on the children'scrumbs."
