341they gave Him 2wine to drinkmixed with gall ; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink.

And when they had crucified Him, 3they divided up His garmentsamong themselves by castingalots.

And sittingdown, they began to 4keepwatchover Him there.

And above His head they put up the chargeagainst Him bwhich read, "5THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

At that timetworobbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.

And thosepassing by were churlingabuse at Him, 6wagging their heads40
and saying, "7You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in threedays, saveYourself ! 8If You are the Son of God, comedown from the cross."

In the sameway the chiefpriestsalso, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying,

"9He savedothers ; dHe cannotsaveHimself. 10He is the King of Israel ; let Him nowcomedown from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
43
"11HE TRUSTS IN GOD ; LET GODRESCUE Him now, IF HE eDELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.' "
4412The robbers who had been crucified with Him were alsoinsulting Him with the same words.
4513Now from the fsixthhourdarknessgfell upon all the landuntil the hninthhour.
46About the ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, saying, "14ELI, ELI, LAMASABACHTHANI ?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"47
And some of those who were standingthere, when they heard it, began saying, "Thisman is calling for Elijah."
4815Immediatelyone of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sourwine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.

But the rest of them said, "iLet us seewhetherElijah will come to save Himj."

And Jesus16cried out again with a loudvoice, and yielded up His spirit.
