14 "And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is 1Elijah who awas to come. 15 "2He who has ears to hear, blet him hear. 16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, 17 and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cmourn.' 18 "For John came neither 3eating nor 4drinking, and they say, '5He has a demon!' 19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a ddrunkard, 6a friend of tax collectors and esinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."

The Unrepenting Cities

20 Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His f7miracles were done, because they did not repent. 21 "8Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, 9Bethsaida! For if the gmiracles had occurred in 10Tyre and 11Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in h12sackcloth and ashes. 22 "Nevertheless I say to you, 13it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in 14the day of judgment than for you. 23 "And you, 15Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will 16descend to 17Hades; for if the imiracles had occurred in 18Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. 24 "Nevertheless I say to you that 19it will be more tolerable for the land of 20Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you."
